This was the first Casas por Cristo house building event that Donna & I participated in with the University Presbyterian Church. It was across the border in Juarez, Mexico.

Traveling in North America can be a diverse and exciting experience, with its vast landscapes, rich history, and cultural diversity. The continent is home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Grand Canyon in the United States, Niagara Falls on the border between the United States and Canada, and the CN Tower in Canada. Visitors can also explore the rich history and culture of the continent through its museums, art galleries, and festivals, and enjoy the delicious North American cuisine, such as hamburgers, and pizza. North America also offers a wide range of adventure activities, such as skiing in Canada and the United States, hiking in the Rocky Mountains, and touring the pyramids in Mexico. However, visitors should be aware of the potential challenges of traveling in North America, such as safety concerns, language barriers, and the vast distances between destinations. It is important to research the specific countries and regions to be visited, and to take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. Shown below are the trips we’ve taken in North America.
Canada (Alberta – RFE), Colorado – July 2008
The reason for this trip was to participate in the Alberta, Canada Rotary Friendship Exchange. We decided to take our camper and drive all the way to Canada to join the RFE team. Our first stop was Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, then to Yellowstone NP, each of which we spent several days sightseeing and touring. From there we went to Banff NP in Alberta, the to our first RFE host in Camrose. From Camrose, we went with the team to Ft. McMurray, Edson, Jasper NP, and Edmonton which was our final stop with the team. After the RFE Donna & I headed south to Calgary, then to Glacier & Grand Teton NP, passing through Denver on our way back home. What an awesome trip!
Mexico (Copper Canyon) – August 2006
This was our first big trip after moving to the southwest (Santa Teresa, NM). We went with my Mom & Dad. The sponsoring organization was the UTEP Alumni Association. We took a bus to Chihuahua City and eventually boarded a train to Copper Canyon. We hiked the trails and rode horseback and had a great time.
Dunns Falls, Jamaica – October 2002
This was a trip Donna & I took to Ocho Rios and the Dunn’s Falls area of Jamaica. We stayed at a wonderful resort which we had “pretty much” to ourselves. It was hurricane season, but the weather was perfect most of the time. We took a bike hike with a group and got rained on during that event, but it was fun.
Panama Canal Cruise – May 2002
This was a cruise that we took with Carole & Dave, LuAnn & Tim and my mom & dad in honor of Mom & Dad’s 55th wedding anniversary. The cruise included a stop in Costa Rica as well as going through the Panama Canal, then returning back to the Atlantic Ocean then back to Florida, with a stop in several of the islands in the Caribbean.
Dominican Republic – April 2000
This was a family trip to one of Carole & Dave’s timeshares in the Dominican Republic. We did some touring and snorkeling. This was the trip that I almost drown while snorkeling because I was dehydrated and should not have gone in the water. In any case things turned out well and we all had a great time.
Cancun / Chichen Itza – June 1998
We took this trip as a courtesy from a guy names John Ross who we invested money with to teach us the business of Lease Purchase. The guy was not on the up & up, but we did learn the business and eventually, through tax rebates, got our money back. The trip was interesting and we had a chance to see some cave diving as well as visit Chichen Itza.
