I drove to Pagosa Springs, CO to join a team of people who were helping to build homes/garages for low-income families. I stayed at Mountain Landing RV Resort and worked 8-3pm on Tue., Wed., Fri & Sat. for two weeks. During my free time I went fishing, hiked various trails in the area; rode the Cumbres & Toltec railroad, and visited a mine. Great trip and nice weather.

Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit organization that aims to provide safe and affordable housing to people in need around the world. The organization was founded in 1976 in Americus, Georgia, and has since grown to become a global network of over 1,500 local affiliates in more than 70 countries. Each affiliate is an independent, non-profit organization that operates within its local community, working with volunteers, donors, and partner families to build homes and provide housing-related services. Habitat for Humanity International provides support to its local affiliates through technical assistance, training, and funding. The organization is dedicated to the belief that everyone should have a decent place to live, and works towards this goal through advocacy, community development, and the construction of simple, decent, and affordable homes. We have been working with Habitat for Humanity for many years and have traveled within the US and various places around the world in support of their mission.
South Dakota (Habitat) – July 2021
I drove the camper from home to Brookings, SD to join a team of 10 volunteers to help build a house as part of the Habitat for Humanity RV Care-A-Vanner’s program. We worked during the week and on the weekend, I did a tour of the area, including Sioux Falls Park, Corn Palace and other interesting places. I also stopped at several spots along the way to do more sightseeing. Great trip overall.
Las Cruces (Habitat Build) – October 2019
Donna & I spent two weeks in Las Cruces, camped out at the Mesilla Valley Habitat for Humanity campground and office location. We worked with 14 other people who were part of the Care-A-Vanners team to build homes for partner families in Las Cruces. We also had time to visit a few parks in the area and enjoyed Happy Hour with our fellow RVer’s.
Poland (Habitat) Trip – October 2019
I traveled to Warsaw, Poland with 16 other Habitat for Humanity Global Village team members from all over the USA. We worked on rehabbing an old warehouse into the first Habitat ReStore in Europe. We also had time to visit several museums and do a city tour on an old Soviet era bus. They called it the Communism tour.
Hobbs, NM Habitat Build – May 2019
This is a trip that Carey took for Habitat for Humanity. It was a build with a group called the RV Care-A-Vanners which is similar to Habitat’s Global Village, only it’s within the US and for people with RV’s. There were 7 of us in the group and most of our time was spent painting two duplex homes in Hobbs.
Malawi/Madagascar – March/April 2019
The trip to Malawi was to build a home for a family in Salima. Carey & Donna traveled with 4 other Habitat for Humanity of El Paso board members over 9,000 miles to work at this Global Village site. It was a very rewarding experience for all of us. We followed that adventure with a tour of Madagascar to see lemurs in the wild, along with the many other wonders in that country. This 21-day trip was a one-of-a-kind adventure that very few people have the opportunity to experience.
Habitat Conference – TX – August 2017
I recently joined the Habitat for Humanity El Paso affiliate. This trip was to the Lone Star Summit in San Marcos, TX. I traveled with Dave Driscoll (Board President, and Geronimo Garcia, HFHEP Executive Director.) The conference was very informative and I came back with some ideas to help our affiliate. We traveled and stayed in my camper during the conference.
