We took this trip with my sister Carole & her husband Dave. We were all part of a group of 10 hosted by Carole’s neighbor who was from Hong Kong originally. The major highlights of this trip included the Imperial Palace, the Great Wall, Terra Cotta army, a national park in eastern Tibet, a visit to a panda bear breeding facility, and a stop in Shanghai. It was a wonderful trip.

Traveling in Asia can be a fascinating and immersive experience, with its rich history, diverse cultures, and stunning landscapes. The continent is home to some of the world’s largest and most vibrant cities, such as Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Bangkok, offering visitors a glimpse into the modern and bustling Asian lifestyle. Alternatively, visitors can explore the continent’s ancient history, such as the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia or the Great Wall of China. The continent also boasts some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, such as those in Thailand or Indonesia. However, visitors should be aware of the potential challenges of traveling in Asia, such as language barriers, cultural differences, and health and safety concerns. It is important to research the specific countries and regions to be visited, and to take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip. Shown below are the places we’ve visited on the continent of Asia.
Borneo (Earthwatch) – January 1997
This was a trip I took on my own with the Earthwatch group. It was a two-week adventure in the jungle where I had an opportunity to walk in the swamps up to my waist and venture into the thick jungle in Borneo, Indonesia. Our mission: to safeguard a National Park from the clutches of poachers and vandals’ intent on its destruction. Together, we treaded into the dense labyrinth of the jungle, contributing to the essential task of baseline assessment for one of the nation’s invaluable National Parks. It was more than an adventure; it was a purpose-driven voyage, a testament to our collective dedication to preserving the natural wonders of our planet.
